Doughnut Books is an independent publisher for people in recovery.

Our books share resources, stories, literature, memoir, how-to guides, and other printed material that supports individuals with substance use disorder. We are owned and operated by people in sustained recovery from addiction.

We honor all recovery pathways and publish books that represent a diverse range of experiences.

What exactly is “recovery”? Each individual defines recovery for themselves. We walk many paths from addiction to wellness. Some people prefer total abstinence, while others use medication-assisted treatment (MAT) or other medical interventions; other people choose to continue using non-problematic substances. Some people do not have an unhealthy or disordered relationship with substances at all, and identify as being in recovery from trauma, mental health, codependency, food or eating disorders, or other issues.

However you identify, you are welcome at Doughnut Books. We do not support or promote any particular recovery pathway, modality, program, medical treatment, therapy, or spiritual community. We believe there is “no wrong way to get sober and no wrong way to stay sober.” If you’re doing what’s right for you, you’re doing the right thing.
